Moon & Star decorative pillows.
When my cousin announced that he and his lovely wife were expecting their first baby, I was beyond excited! I couldn't wait to learn what the baby's gender would be, what colours they would choose for the nursery, what theme... I think it's safe to say that this could have very well been my own baby, I was THAT pumped about it all!
When the word finally came out that the baby will be a girl (yeay!!!) and that the nursery would have a "moon, stars, and clouds" theme in a soft mint, gray, white, and light pink colour scheme, I wanted to make them something special. I wanted to gift them something atypical, that perhaps they would not receive from anyone else (therefore clothes, toys, and blankets were out, besides I already made them a beautiful super mod ombre quilt!), so moon and star shaped pillows seemed like the ideal thing; they would go perfectly with the theme and they'd probably not receive anything like these pillows or similar from anyone else. At least I was hoping that would be the case.
I absolutely love the combination of mint, pink, gray, and white, and I had a really fun time selecting the fabrics for these pillows. I chose a very light gray for the moon and a medium-dark mint with a star pattern for the moon's hat, meanwhile the star would be made of a really light pink with a barely visible print. All the fabrics are 100% cotton. The eyes and mouth are hand embroidered using 100% cotton embroidery thread and cute white pompom trim was used to adorn the edge of the moon's hat. Pillows are firmly stuffed with hypoallergenic polyfill.
Because the parents both like modern, minimalistic decor, I was aiming exactly for that look with these pillows; I really had to try hard to gravitate away from lace and elaborate details on this project. I think I succeeded in making pillows that are not too girly, not frilly, nor elaborate, but rather "pure", simple, and still cute.
These are a great addition to any room; whether placed in a crib, a bed, on a chair, or in a reading nook or tent, these pillows add visual interest to any space. You don't have to have a "moon, stars, and clouds" theme in the room to enjoy these pillows, as they look great in any setting. Because they are firmly stuffed, they will not flatten out over time as most pillows stuffed with polyfill tend to do. And they are gender neutral too so they make a great gift for all babies alike!
