Grand gallery wall.
What better way to fill the wall over the stairs than to turn it into a grand gallery? Here, the 20' tall wall was filled with large square frames of our favourite family shots. I love this gallery because, while adding personal warmth to our home, it makes a big statement with clean, modern lines.
For quick and easy frame hanging that results in a perfect grid use this trick: make a hanging guide out of a long piece of paper that spans the width of your wall. Lay four frames (or however many columns you'd like to have in your grid) across the paper so that only the top edges are on the paper and mark their location. Then, use the paper as a guide for hanging. First, stick the paper guide to the wall and hammer in nails on the marks that represent the edges of the frames. Hang the frames in the first row. Second, adhere the paper guide in the desired location below the first row of frames and repeat the first step. I hung my frames such that the distance between the columns and rows was identical (which just happened to fit perfectly on my wall) but you may want to space out your columns and/or rows such that the grid better fills your wall. As you approach the bottom of the wall just above the stairs, you will hang one frame less than the previous row.
