"Snowy Houses" winter decoration.
This piece was inspired by something similar I had seen at a store while browsing home decor items one lazy afternoon. It was two houses, side by side, that looked like they had just been hit by the biggest snow fall. There was something so pretty and cozy about them... I wanted to make my own version.
The houses are cut from solid pine wood planks and are attached to a narrow base. The entire decoration measures approximately 20"x20".
The windows and door were formed using burlap and natural branches and sticks.
For a unique and different look, the rooftops were covered with snowy faux branches and long-haired faux fur.
A set of silver stars arranged in the front provide some visual interest and give an element of sparkle and shine.
To give the appearance of being "snowed in", the entire piece was dry brushed in white. In addition, white sand was applied to areas where snow would naturally settle, such as on window sills, around doors, and other corners, nooks, and crannies. Large fabric snowflakes are scattered throughout.
The decoration is only about 4" deep, thus it can easily sit on a narrow shelf. It would even fit comfortably on a fireplace mantel alongside other decorative items.
Because it isn't Christmas-specific, it can be displayed in the home not only during the holidays, but all winter long.
