Modern and rustic burlap stockings.
Growing up in Poland, hanging and filling stuffing stockings was never a part of our Christmas traditions. Even after we moved to Canada with my family, we never took to it. It was only recently, after I married Eric, that I adapted this tradition so as to continue on some of his favourite Christmas time customs. So finally this year I made a beautiful set of stockings for our family. And this happened totally out of the blue... I was so busy with Holiday orders, it didn't even dawn on me that we don't have a proper set of stockings. When I finished decorating the house for Christmas and looked at the cheap, mismatched stockings that were hanging on our mantel I felt... ashamed. Ashamed that here I was cranking out beautiful, colourful, personalized stockings for my customers, but the ones hanging in my very own home were from the dollar store! What a sad situation it was and that needed to be changed. Immediately I began brain storming ideas; what colours would I choose? What style? How would they be personalized? What fabrics would I select?
After MUCH deliberation, I decided I would combine two of my favourite styles, rustic and modern, and make burlap stockings with white, silver, and gray cuffs. It was so much fun selecting the different trim and decorative accents for each cuff. I found wooden snowflake cut outs at my local craft store, and they are the perfect accent. Every stocking is fully lined to help retain their shape and prevent stretching.
I am so so pleased with these! I love that I was able to incorporate both rustic and modern styles here in a very harmonious way. I especially adore the fun and playful accents and my favourite ones include the fringe trim, pom poms, and sequins fabrics.
