Giant reindeer stocking.
I was asked to make one stocking to complete an already existing family set. This one, however, was giant; over 3' tall, I was to only use red, green, maroon, and white colours and they were to be as best matched to the existing stockings as possible. I was faced with a challenge because seeing how it was getting close to Christmas, I had to work with whatever fabrics I could pick up in person at my local fabric store, and was doubtful I would find the right shades. I was right. I could not find a matching shade of red or green... until I spotted something in the fleece section. Fleece was certainly not my first choice of fabric for this project, but upon closer inspection, the colour matched almost perfectly, and I noticed that if I was to use the left side of the fabric as the outside of the stocking, the texture of the fleece would be very similar to the texture of the existing felt stockings. I didn't hesitate another moment and I left the store happy that I had found what I needed after all.
The customer had specifically requested a reindeer design I had previously done on a set of geometric felt stockings, so I recreated that pattern here. To stay within the strict colour scheme, I cut the reindeer out of white felt and added decorative hand stitching in red and green. Three silver jingle bells and a few maroon felt balls throughout the reindeer's antlers added visual interest. Finally, I added several red stars around the reindeer to complete the design. I personalized the stocking by hand stitching the name on the cuff. As with all my handmade stockings, this one is fully lined to retain its shape and prevent stretching.
