Geometric felt Christmas stockings.
I don't know what it is about elaborate, complicated, and detail-oriented projects but I just really seem to enjoy them. I love it when the house is peaceful at night (after the kiddos have gone to bed, of course!) and I fall into almost like a trance where it's just me, focusing intently and creating something unique.
When I was shown a photo of some bright and unique stockings and asked if I could recreate them, I could not wait to get started as I knew this project would require those quiet, late nights, a lot of attention to detail, and nothing but the skill of my hands.
I was to make the reindeer and Christmas tree stockings exactly as shown in the photo above. The star stocking was to be similar with same stitching details as the Christmas tree stocking. Finally, I was to make a fourth stocking with a different reindeer design. I had the creative freedom to select the colours for each.
I made each stocking out of thick felt and the appliques on each were cut from thinner felt. All the stitching, including sewing the stockings together along the edges was done by hand using embroidery thread.
It was so much fun recreating the designs from the inspiration photos and making up my own design for the second reindeer stocking. Colourful, bright, and cheery, these untraditional stockings surely will entice Santa Claus to leave a couple of extra treats inside!
