"Partridge in a pear tree" table runner.
In the midst of the chaotic Christmas season, my Mom in law asked if I was too busy to make a table runner for her. Indeed, I was swamped with orders, but a certain handful of my customers qualify for priority service. So, while I told her that "I'd probably be able to make one in a couple of weeks", I actually put all my orders on hold and immediately started on the table runner. I planned to surprise her with it sooner rather than later.
The design for the table runner was adapted from one blurry picture she had sent me as an example of what she wanted: a simple, red runner, with one Christmas tree design embroidered on either end.
I knew exactly the type of fabric I'd be using for this project. I've had eyes on it at my local store for a while and finally I had a reason to purchase it! It's a lovely, thick, soft coating textile, that would make a beautiful, rich, and luxurious table runner.
I drew out the tree design by hand and embroidered it using white thread. I just love that adorable little partridge sitting on the one branch.
The underside is lined with a cotton in a matching red shade. All seams are hidden, which gives the runner a clean, professional finish.
My mom in law was thrilled to receive this! The table runner adds a beautiful punch of Christmas red to the table. It's simple and streamlined, but the trees embroidered on either end are a unique detail.
