Mermaid themed felt name banner.
Our dear friends' daughter's 3rd birthday was coming up and I wanted to gift something special. Since her name is "Arielle" adapted from "The Little Mermaid", I decided I'd do a name banner customized with a super cute mermaid theme. When I lucked out finding a pretty mint shade of felt I got straight to work!
The letters of the name are approximately 12cm tall, made of quality felt, stuffed with hypoallergenic polyfill. Usually I like to use a simple block font for the letters so that the accents I put on the letters can stand out. This time however, I was feeling adventurous (haha!) and seeing how the mermaid theme is fun, I used a more playful font.
Once the letters were completed, it was time for the really fun stuff! First, I made the cutest, tiny mermaid. I love details so making this little character was a lot of fun; purple and turquoise long hair, lashes on the eyes, a sweet, thin smile, pink beads on the tail, and a pretty star hair clip... isn't she darling?
The little mermaid was in need of some friends, so I also made a fish, a crab, and a seahorse.
I then attached the little guys to the letters and added some purple coral and green algae as accents. Couldn't help but throw in some tiny yellow stars too.
The remaining letters were looking naked so I repeated the coral/algae accents and added a gray starfish.
Finally, I strung all the letters onto a colourful string and done! The letters slide on the string so the banner can be compressed or expanded.
It's the perfect way to personalize any kid's space.
