It's all about the sun hat...
I love summer. I love hot, humid, sunny days and here in Southern Ontario, there is plenty! When we go out to play outside in the summer time, we need some good protection from the sun's intense rays. I love dressing up my kids' day-to-day outfits with stylish sun hats but I could not find the perfect hat in store; they were either the wrong colour or print, or the brim was not large enough, or the fit was not right. And now that my daughter is older, I find the bigger sizes do not come with a chin strap, which is nice to have on a windier day. So I set out to my local fabric store in search of materials to sew the perfect hat.
This style is by far our favourite and I've sewn this hat in various sizes and fabrics with each new spring/summer season. I love the navy/white print as it's really stylish and it matched a lot of my daughter's outfits. For a perfect, bunch-free fit on the head, the crown portion of the hat is sewn out of 6 sections (instead of 4 or 5). I made the brim nice and wide so that it provided full shade on the face and back of neck when worn down, but it could easily be flipped back if needed. And finally, it has a chin strap with hook and loop tape on it for easy and quick closure and size adjustment.
